Raised so far for our Charity of the Year

We all pulled together and achieved something amazing!

Thank you for helping to raise nearly £6m for Carers Trust, our Charity of the Year 2013 partner. This is a fantastic achievement which will benefit over 20,000 young adult carers (aged 14-25) across the UK who will be able to access: support, advice and opportunities to transform their lives. I am thrilled by the success of the partnership and I am stunned by the dedication of The Co-operative staff and members who have done all kinds of amazing things. They have literally climbed mountains for carers.

From raffles to raft building, head shaves to bush tucker trials, 24-7 endurance races to sponsored naps, our colleagues, members and customers have gone the extra mile to improve the life chances of young adult carers to enable them to make the positive transition to adulthood. Total Charity of the Year partnership fundraising to date: £20.8m

2013- Carers Trust £6m

Through five unique projects Carers Trust will be able to ensure that young adult carers have time to grow, time to live and time to be themselves. All of the projects have been developed with a steering group of young adult carers who are at the heart of this partnership.

2011 - Mencap and Enable Scotland £7.2m

The funds were used to support the Inspire me programme, which creates opportunities and provide support for 25,000 young people with a learning disability, their families and communities.

2009- RNID £3.7m

The funds raised went towards RNID’s Hear to Help Project, which offers support and guidance to hearing aid users in their local communities. Thanks to The Co-operative, over 20 new Hear to Help Projects are being launched this year, which will benefit over 20,000 people who are deaf or hard of hearing.

2007- The Children’s Society and Diabetes UK £2.9m

The Co-operative raised £2.9m for our charities of the year, The Children’s Society and Diabetes UK, providing vital support for communities and demonstrating our co-operative difference of caring for others.

2005- Shelter £1m

Money was raised through the fundraising efforts of the Group’s staff, which included a sponsored cycle ride on ‘Hercules’ – recognised by Guinness as the largest bike in the world. The donation at the time, represented the biggest single contribution to Shelter made by employees of a business.

Care O’Clock: When the clocks went back in October, we asked employees and members what they would do with their extra hour to raise funds for young adult carers. Just as with our 24-7 campaign, Care o’Clock also aimed to highlight the 24 hour, seven day a week nature of being a young adult carer. Local parliamentarians were involved in the campaign, pledging their support for carers in their local community and young adult carers used social media to tell us what they would do with the extra hour.

The Co-operative Fundraiser of the Year: Awarded by HRH Princess Royal, President of Carers Trust to Piers Wrangham, Co-operative Bank. Finalists from across our family of businesses: Robyn Duffield, Co-operative Food, Lois McClure, The Co-operative Group, Peter McCarthy, The Co-operative Pharmacy, Nuala O’Donoghue, The Co-operative Funerals and Mary Rogers won the Ambassador of the Year for her voluntary support of the partnership.

24-7: A range of fundraising activities across the UK was created and delivered by co-operative colleagues and members, over a 24 hour period, around the theme of ‘time’ which aimed to highlight the 24 hour, seven day a week nature of caring that young adult cares face every day.
