Co-operative Group appoints Magliano as new brand director
The Co-operative Group, the UK’s largest mutually-owned business, has appointed David Magliano as its new Brand Director, reporting into the Group’s Director of Marketing Gill Barr. Magliano is a high-profile marketeer with a wealth of experience that includes marketing responsibility for the successful London 2012 Olympic bid.
In his new role, Magliano will have responsibility for all developmental aspects of the brand and its communication across the Group’s family of businesses, which includes food, banking, insurance, funerals, legal services and pharmacy. His remit will also include digital media, social media and sponsorship.
With an early background in advertising, Magliano has worked as Director of Sales and Marketing for two airlines, easyJet and Go and was also Director of Commercial and Marketing for England’s 2018 World Cup bid. His achievements were recognised when he was awarded an MBE in 2006.
Gill Barr explained: “David is a high calibre, proven marketeer and his appointment underlines the importance we are attaching to the further development of our brand within the UK. These are exciting times for The Co-operative in terms of maintaining the momentum we’ve seen in recent years and delivering plans which are anchored around meeting customers’ needs. David will play a key role in this and we are delighted that he is joining us.”
David Magliano commented: “I’ve been presented with a fantastic opportunity to shape and communicate the Co-operative brand across a range of businesses to a multitude of audiences, each with their own needs and expectations. I look forward to ensuring that this distinctive brand realises its full potential across all communication channels.”
