Respect Works

Respect Works is a programme we launched a few years ago to help tackle inappropriate behaviour in the workplace. We understand what a difference creating the right working environment can have on our employees engagement, productivity and commitment. Respect Works is designed to involve everyone in creating a supportive and respectful working culture.

We provide training as part of the programme to all employees. There are four different modules, each designed to meet the needs of particular groups of people, or tackle particular issues in our workplace.

To help engage and train our senior managers, we developed a number of drama based workshops to help them to become champions for the right behaviours across our organisation.

At an operational level, we tailored Respect Works sessions for each of our businesses, based on the employee profile and the delivery options available to us in each business. As an example, we developed a Respect Works video and supporting booklet for our branch based employees in our Food Retail business.

Respect Works is able to be adapted to help us address different challenges that we see in the business. Whenever we make inroads on one of our other programme, for example Flexible Working, we modify the Respect Works training to reflect the learning we have made.

We also have individuals in the business who volunteer to be Respect Works Champions, who have been trained to assist people with issues related to bullying and harassment.

All of this is backed-up with a Respect Works policy, which is designed to advise, guide and support employees either experiencing or witnessing inappropriate behaviour within the organisation
