Climate change
As a business, we’re leading the way in the fight to combat climate change. Initiatives such as producing energy through wind power on our farm in Coldham, and refusing to finance fossil fuel extraction, led to us being placed as the highest ranked food retailer or financial services business in the Sunday Times Best Green Companies list in May 2010.

Waste
The Co-operative addresses waste management in terms of the waste we produce directly, through the activities of our businesses, and indirectly, through the packaging waste passed on to our customers.
Our recycling centre in Manchester recycles The Co-operative Group's waste, as well as some other Manchester-based organisations. The centre recycles head office waste paper into our own-brand toilet tissue and kitchen rolls.

Chemicals
The Co-operative Food has committed to continue to be the UK’s leading retailer in the removal of substances of concern, particularly additives and pesticides.

Biodiversity
As one of the country’s largest farmers, The Co-operative can have a direct impact on the UK’s biodiversity. We can also exert a significant impact via the products offered by The Co-operative Food, and the ethical policies of The Co-operative Bank and The Co-operative Investments.
