Bridlington staff member saves shopper's life

February 04, 2010

Somerfield home delivery driver Craig Millward is being hailed a hero by his colleagues after saving the life of a shopper.

Craig, who is also a fire fighter, came to the rescue of the customer who collapsed in the store. He had been put in the recovery position by another shopper, but when Craig reached the patient, he had no pulse.

Quick-thinking Craig immediately performed CPR and the man started breathing again.

Craig, 34, said: “I heard over the tanoy there was a situation in store which required a first aider so, being a fireman too, I had some experience of what to do.

“When I got to the man, I felt for a pulse and discovered he wasn’t breathing so I began CPR and got his pulse back. The ambulance then came and took him to hospital where I believe he is recovering. I am glad I could be of help.”

Martongate store manager David Mitchell added: “Craig really impressed us with his actions. He knew exactly what to do and took control of the situation by performing CPR and saved the life of this customer. He really is a hero.”
