The Co-operative Estates is one of the largest and most diverse land and property operations in the UK, with interests which span both retailing, property investment and land development. Involved in a wide range of major projects across the UK, our land and property arm has already developed a wind farm on its land holdings.
More recent projects include responsibility for recommending the location and building The Group’s new headquarters; plus having submitted a successful bid to the Government, Estates is progressing to build a new eco-town on its estate near Leicester as part of an innovative and sustainable community development.

We are the largest farmer in the UK with over 70,000 acres of farmland in England and Scotland. We supply products such as soft fruit, cider, potatoes and packet flour to The Co-operative food stores, which gives us a unique position amongst retailers as we can guarantee the products are grown to the highest standards with exemplary care for the environment.
We are committed to farming in a sustainable way, and set ourselves very high standards in our care of the environment and of wildlife. We are also committed to raising awareness of farming and how food is produced, and welcome school children onto farms through our From Farm to Fork project to share our passion for growing top-quality food with care.

The Co-operative Recycling Centre based in Manchester is the largest in-house office waste-recycling centre in the UK, and was set up as part of The Co-operative’s commitment to the environment. It provides confidential shedding and recycling service to The Co-operative’s family of business, and the paper made from waste is turned into own-brand toilet tissue and kitchen paper for sale in selected Food stores. The centre also processes cardboard, plastic bottles, vending machine cups, aluminium cans and toner cartridges.
The Co-operative Recycling Centre houses the education facility Waste Works, which runs a free education programme for local schools where school children are able to see the Recycling Centre in action.
