Co-operatives on Twitter
There is a thriving co-operative community on Twitter, the micro-blogging social network. Each day, dozens of messages are posted from employees of member-owned organisations or those interested in the co-operative movement. Often, Twitter is often the quickest way to find out about news and events from the likes of The Plunkett Foundation, Co-operatives UK and ourselves.
Last week, Angela Davies from The Enterprise Hub chaired a creative coops event in Manchester. Keen Twitter users would have noticed a number of attendees tweeting from the event, sharing news and their own thoughts with their followers.
If you’re interested in the co-operative movement, or would just like to join the conversation on Twitter, there are a number of ways to get involved.
Primarily, we’d recommend receiving updates from a number of keen co-operative tweeters. Pdalesmith, GilesCoopsUK, AthertonJohn, Dave_at_Alpha and Mary Rayner all frequently tweet about news and events relating to the coop movement.
But, there are many more Twitter users who discuss related news and views. A good way to find relevant discussions would be to search for #coops on the site; this will display all messages which include the co-operatives hashtag.
You can also have a look at the lists feature on Twitter; groups of related users who talk about the same subject. You can see some co-operative lists here and here.
And finally, you can always follow The Enterprise Hub on Twitter. Please feel free to say hello!
