The one benefit of a co-operative
Last week, we posed a question to our Facebook fans:
"When talking to people unaware of the movement, what would you say was the most beneficial reason to become a coop?"
We had a variety of answers from our Facebook page, many of which we've posted below.
Liz Sanderson: Because the very name echoes what it's about - co-operation!
John Atherton: You own it, control it, and get to do what you like with the proceeds from it.
Richard Dillon: It's about sharing rather than greed.
Angela Davies: A more accountable business model.
Johnny Denis: In the old days it was about having control over something when I had none in the rest of my life. These days it's more about divvying up the responsibility!
Adrian Ashton: Co-op businesses are more sustainable (less likely to fail in comparison to traditional non-coop private businesses); more trusted; allow you to collaborate with others in ways that mean you all getter a better return than you would individually, and, oh sorry - you only wanted 1 reason...
Helen Robinson: Sharing skills, sharing a vision, sharing responsibilities and being cooperative. I'm proud to be part of this global revolution!
Dave Hollings: You own the business. You have a team to share responsibility. You decide what do with it and any profits. There is always a new generation of members coming through to give sustainability.
Thanks to all who submitted their thoughts. If you have another reason to add, you can join in the conversation on our Facebook page.
