Leading edge energy & carbon management

New Mills HydroelectricityThe Energy and Environment Team are responsible for all aspects of the Group’s energy requirements as well as investigating and implementing technologies and programmes to help meet our environmental priorities. How we do this is highlighted through our team’s objectives:

Energy Procurement:

The Energy and Environment Team currently buys over 1.1 TWh of electricity and 400 GWh of gas to supply the 6000 plus sites that the Co-operative Group occupies or owns.  There are three major utility contracts for the Group: half hourly electricity, non half hourly electricity and gas.  A full risk management policy is adhered to and the contracts are all fully flexible.

If you are interested in finding out more information on energy procurement at the Co-operative Group, please contact our Energy Procurement Manager on 0161 827 6122.

Energy Efficiency:

The Co-operative believes that reducing energy consumption will lead to a brighter future.  We have set ourselves a tough target to reduce energy consumption across our business Energy Efficiencyby 25% by 2012.  We have hit the half way point and have so far saved over 12.5% against a 2006 base.

There is still a long way to go to ensure we achieve the target… if you are interested in finding out more about the Programme or believe you have a product or service we should consider, please contact our Energy Efficiency Manager on 0161 827 6496.

Environment:

The Energy and Environment Team are responsible for delivering the targets set on a number of key environmental priorities… including waste reduction and water conservation.

Billing and Operations:

The Energy and Environment Team checks thousands of utility bills every year!  If you have any utility invoicing queries please email energybills@cgproperty@co-operative.coop

Energy Consortium - efficient energy buying

Wind TurbineThe Energy and Environment Team also manage the Co-operative Energy Procurement Consortium.  This is a service offered to all Independent Co-operative Societies.  By all co-operating together we can ensure we approach the market in the most efficient way.

As well as the team handling all energy buying matters, members of the Consortium can also benefit from a full bill validation service, assistance with the installation of smart meters, energy reporting and guidance with energy efficiency.

A Conference is held twice a year for all members of the Consortium, which offers an opportunity to share best practise, review the energy markets and network with other energy managers from across the co-operative movement.  If you are interested in finding out more please call 0161 827 6163.
