leading the way on cruelty free products

We were the first major UK retailer to have all of our own-brand toiletries accredited to the British Union for the Abolition of Vivisection’s (BUAV) Humane Cosmetics Standard. So, you can buy everything from toothpaste to shower gel, safe in the knowledge that neither the product, nor its ingredients, have been tested on animals, after a fixed cut-off point of 1985.

We also worked with the BUAV on the development of the Humane Household Products Standard, an independent assurance mark that identifies household products that have not been tested on animals. So, all of our own-brand household products, from washing powder to cleaning fluid, are certified by BUAV.

However, other retailers and brands don’t feel the same as we do, and, while animal testing for cosmetics is banned in the UK and being phased out in the EU, it is still carried out in other countries worldwide. There are also no laws prohibiting animal testing for household products. So, we’re working with the BUAV to raise awareness of animal testing in the household products industry.
