The Co-operative StreetGames Young Volunteers

StreetGames
inspires young
people to change
their world
through sports
volunteering

We believe that young people should be able to enjoy sport in their free-time, whatever their background, and that they should have the chance to pass their skills on to others in their community. We’re working towards this goal by partnering with national charity StreetGames, to open up sporting opportunities for young people in disadvantaged areas.

Our £1million commitment is being used to train Co-operative StreetGames Young Volunteers, giving them the skills, knowledge and support to coach their peers in activities such as basketball, dance, athletics and martial arts. Along with health and social benefits, the project promotes self-belief, self-responsibility and leadership. Many of the volunteers have used the skills they have gained to turn their own lives around – using the experience as a springboard into further education and training.

We’re also involved in grassroots sports in other ways, such as offering coaching and kits to junior football teams. In total, our community sports initiatives have benefited more than 90,000 young people.
