Burma VJ: Free the VJs

The Co-operative is campaigning to free those who have courageously demonstrated during, and filmed, the 2007 protests.

Burma VJ tells the story of the Democratic Voice of Burma (DVB) and their role in the battle for a free and democratic Burma. The DVB and individual activists in this film took a great personal risk to get this story out to the world – as a result of this project, a number of them are currently incarcerated.

After careful consideration of each case, the DVB decided to campaign on behalf of the following individuals: Htin Kyaw, Su Su Nway, Ohn Than, Sithu Maung, Ko Win Maw. This is the first time it has ever released names for such a campaign.

Free the Burma VJ political prisoners

These five individuals join over 2,100 political prisoners in Burma, including Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, 1991 Nobel Peace Prize Winner, imprisoned simply for peacefully calling for democracy and freedom in that country.

The Co-operative is calling for the release of political prisoners in Burma, including the five people from the film. We are asking our three million members to write to the United Nations, to secure the release of Burma’s 2,100 political prisoners.
