who was behind The Wave?

We teamed up with Oxfam and the Stop Climate Chaos Coalition to encourage our members to take part in the biggest climate change march ever seen in the UK.
Stop Climate Chaos Coalition
The Stop Climate Chaos Coalition is the UK’s largest group of people dedicated to action on climate change and limiting its impact on the world’s poorest communities. It has a combined supporter base of more than 11 million people across over 100 organisations, from environment and development charities to unions, faith, community and women’s groups.
SCC organised the successful I Count march and rally in Trafalgar Square, 4 November 2006 and has been an active supporter of the annual climate marches organised by SCC member, Campaign Against Climate Change.
Ahead of the UN climate change talks in Copenhagen, the Stop Climate Chaos Coalition's key asks for world leaders included:
- protect the poorest: provide resources to help the world’s poorest and most vulnerable people adapt to climate change
- act fair and fast: deliver a fair global deal that keeps global warming under the 2ºC danger threshold

“It is fantastic that The Co-operative and its members are supporting The Wave. I very much look forward to standing alongside them in a huge public effort to demand a fair and safe international climate deal for the world and the poorest people.”
Barbara Stocking, Chief Executive, Oxfam GB
