why were we involved?
2009 saw The Co-operative stepping up its campaigning activities. But this isn’t new to us – we have a long history of campaigning for change on important ethical issues. We’ve never been afraid of taking a stand; and inspiring our members and customers to take action is part of who we are.
building on The Big Ask
From 2006 to 2008, over 22,000 customers and members contacted their MP calling for a strong climate change bill as part of Friends of the Earth’s The Big Ask.
As a result of this campaign, the Climate Change Act 2008 became law, committing the UK to reduce its emissions by 80% by 2050. This made the UK the first country in the world to set legally binding, long term targets.
The Co-operative - making life good for everyone
The Co-operative Community Plan outlines three key strands for our community and campaigns activities. Two of these three themes support our involvement in The Wave.
Find out how we’re combating climate change and tackling global poverty to making life good for everyone.
