seasonal picking and packing
The Co-operative Farms employ seasonal workers, as well as permanent employees, at our soft and top fruit farms and pack houses.
Many of our seasonal workers and permanent staff come from Europe, including central and eastern European countries. Our EU workers tend to come back year after year to work during the harvest and some return for permanent, managerial positions after graduation.
The work available is varied and includes: plant preparation, fruit picking, fruit and vegetable packing, grading and quality control, tunnel erection and maintenance and general farm work. We provide all the training and support necessary for our employees to perform to the best of their ability and provide various opportunities for development and training.
Seasonal work is available on our farms from March (when we start preparing strawberry plants for harvest) until November when the apple season ends. The pack houses operate all year round.
We are registered by the Gangmasters Licensing Authority and have regular inspections to ensure we meet their standards.
Where we employ seasonal workers, we always:
- Provide an induction including Health and Safety rules, tour of the accommodation and facilities, and workplace induction
- Pay a fair and transparent wage (as regulated by AWB/SAWB)
- Offer clean, safe accommodation (in hostels, caravans or cabins) at a fair price (as regulated by AWB/SAWB as applicable)
- Provide excellent facilities for washing, cooking and cleaning.
- Facilitate recreation with access to sporting and social facilities
- Provide English language courses to our longer term workers
We have five sites around the UK. Click on the links to the top left to find out more.
How to apply
We recruit our seasonal apple picking staff for Tillington each year in June for work beginning in August. See Tillington for details on how to apply for apple picking work.
For picking and packing work at our other farms and packhouses, we recruit through specialist agencies. Please contact them directly if you are interested in working for us.
