Co-operative Farms MD looks forward to major conference role

January 08, 2010

The new Chairman of the Oxford Farming Conference, The Co-operative Farms Managing Director Christine Tacon, says she is looking forward to building on the success of this year’s event.

To chair the Oxford Farming Conference is a great honour, and also a great responsibility, but it is one that I am really looking forward to

Christine officially took over the role at the end of the 2010 conference, held this week, and planning will soon begin for the event in January 2011, drawing on feedback from delegates who attended this year.

“This year’s Oxford Farming Conference was very high profile and a great success,” said Christine.

“It was very heartening to see farming and agriculture taking centre stage in the media, with high calibre speakers tackling important issues, such as the future of farming, that affect everyone, not just those in the industry.”

The Oxford Farming Conference, held in January each year, is the most prestigious event of its kind in the farming sector. It was first held more than 60 years ago, and now attracts hundreds of delegates from across the UK and beyond.Christine Tacon

“To chair the Oxford Farming Conference is a great honour, and also a great responsibility, but it is one that I am really looking forward to. Although the main event is 12 months away it will be a busy year.

“Having the backing and support of The Co-operative Group, of which The Co-operative Farms is a part, will also be a real advantage, and I am sure it will help ensure we continue the Conference’s tradition of excellent speakers.”

Christine has been on the Oxford Farming Conference Council since 2008, and will hold the voluntary post of Chairman for a year, until the conclusion of the 2011 event. Next year’s Oxford Farming Conference will be held between January 4 and 6.
