Don't throw your batteries away
Did you know that each year in the UK we throw away around 600 million batteries? Most household batteries are put into rubbish bins and then taken to landfill sites. When batteries begin to rot away chemicals may leak into the ground which can cause soil and water pollution. This can be harmful to animals, humans and the environment.
Recycle your batteries at The Co-operative Food
Approximately only 3% of all household batteries are recycled in the UK, which is a very small amount. You can recycle your household batteries with ease at any of our Co-operative Food stores. Simply go in store and ask a member of staff for details of where you can recycle your batteries. Recycling is a great way to help protect the environment. Each battery placed in the recycling bin will be taken apart and the materials will be used to make something new.
Which batteries can be recycled?
Household batteries only.
We accept the following batteries.
- We also accept batteries from mobile phones.
- We cannot accept car or other industrial batteries through this scheme.
- We cannot accept batteries with connecting wires.
What happens to the batteries after I have recycled them?
The Co-operative Food is working in partnership with Valpak Limited to provide a battery recycling scheme in store.
