Fairtrade and the Co-operative

We’ve been supporting Fairtrade since the inception of the Fairtrade mark back in 1994. And in 1998 we launched our own long-term plan to ‘mainstream’ Fairtrade.

Through ongoing campaigning, product innovation and leadership we have helped develop the UK as one of the largest Fairtrade markets in the world, supporting millions of growers and producers in developing countries.

Fairtrade ensures that disadvantaged producers in developing countries get a better deal for their crop.  The premium they receive can be used to improve their working and living conditions and for community projects, such as providing clean drinking water.


Expect the unexpected

Fairtrade began with commodity products such as coffee and cocoa.  However, we have maintained an innovative approach to product development to ensure our customers have every opportunity to make the Fairtrade choice. 

As you will expect, all our stores, even our smallest, stock a core range of key Fairtrade products such as coffee, tea, sugar, chocolate and bananas.

But next time you’re instore look out for the unexpected….

Seasonally, we offer exciting, innovative Fairtrade products including Valentine’s Day roses, Easter bunnies/eggs and Christmas puddings. 

 

 


We offer a wide range of fantastic tasting products based on Fairtrade cocoa and sugar, from delicious chocolate cake, chocolate sauce and the finest chocolate chip Scottish shortbread to museli bars and organic ales - brewed by the award winning Freeminer Brewery right here in the UK.

So when you’re choosing to buy a delicious product, make it Fairtrade - it means a fairer price is paid to the producer and doesn’t mean you’re paying over the odds yourself.  So it’s fair for everyone.
