Grapefruit

The Co-operative Fairtrade Grapefruit from Lisbon Estates, South Africa

We continued to extend our role as the major Fairtrade supermarket pioneer by introducing the world’s first ever Fairtrade grapefruit from the Lisbon Estates farm in South Africa in the summer of 2007. 
 
At peak times, the farm, which is owned by the community and the workers, employs up to 470 people. 
 
The workers are excited at the prospect of their first Fairtrade premium which they are considering using to open a crèche for their children so they can be confident of safe, good quality childcare while they work.
