Single malt Scotch from The Co-operative
The Co-operative is introducing a 12-year-old single malt Scotch whisky into its own-brand spirits range.
Working with Whyte & Mackay’s third generation master blender, Richard Paterson, The Co-operative has selected the finest Highland single malt from a renowned distillery. It is made using locally grown barley, which is then matured in sherry cask barrels and American white oak to produce an individual and elegant 12-year-old malt liquid for the retailer’s own-brand range.
The result is a deep gold mahogany whisky, with warm notes of citrus and exotic spices and a long, lingering aftertaste.
This is the first own-label single malt Scotch whisky to be introduced into Co-operative stores. It has already been taste tested by consumers at the BBC Good Food Show in Glasgow recently, where it went down an absolute treat with whisky and non-whisky drinkers alike, who loved the balance of flavours and body.
The 70cl whisky will be available in selected Co-operative stores nationwide from 2 December 2009, priced at £19.99.
