Top marks for Co-operative wines in new guide
The Co-operative has come top of the food retailers in a new wine guide - “The Best Wines in the Supermarkets 2010”.
Five wines stocked by The Co-operative scored perfect marks - more than Asda, Booths, Marks & Spencer, Morrisons, Sainsbury’s, Tesco and Waitrose.
The definitive guide, written by well-known wine critic Ned Halley, features the writer’s pick of his favourite wines from each major food retailer in the UK, as well as wine retailer Majestic*. He scored the wines out of 10 using his own system.
The wine critic has praised The Co-operative for its new “shiny supermarket-style stores with an increasingly upmarket range of products”, and he has also highlighted The Co-operative’s leading Fairtrade wine range, as well as its wine ingredient labelling policy.
A total of 32 Co-operative wines feature in the guide. The five that scored 10/10, which were included in his overall top wine selection, are:
- The Co-operative Fairtrade Argentine Malbec Reserve
- The Co-operative Explorers Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc
- Finca La Solana Monastrell
- River 216 Gewürztraminer Riesling
- Chateau Roumieu Sauternes
