Fairtrade cotton wool range - another fairtrade first for The Co-operative
The Co-operative has become the first retailer to convert its entire own-brand cotton wool range (which includes baby and skincare products) to Fairtrade.
The Co-operative continues to drive the Fairtrade market having converted its entire hot beverages and sugar ranges earlier this year.
All products in the new cotton wool range are made with Fairtrade cotton from Cameroon, West Africa. The FAIRTRADE Mark is a guarantee that international Fairtrade standards have been met, and ensures that the cotton growers receive a fair price for their crop. The Fairtrade premium also helps provide the local communities with a better way of life, and the income the growers receive is invested in projects such as schools, hospitals, and medicines for their local communities.
The plastic packaging used for the range is home compostible, meaning that it is 100% biodegradable.
The range includes Fairtrade Baby Cotton Wool Buds, which have cardboard stems instead of the usual plastic. These are fully degradable and don’t cause any blockages or introduce plastic to the marine environment when flushed away.
