The Co-operative 1% fat milk
If you're trying to cut down on fat, one of the simplest ways is to try a lower fat milk such as skimmed, or semi-skimmed.
Alternatively, why not try the Co-operative 1% fat milk, available in Co-operative stores from
the 29th July. Available in a 4 pint bottle size with an easily recognisable orange label in British, Scottish and Welsh variants, with the milk being sourced from dairy farmers in those regions.
1% milk contains less fat than semi-skimmed milk but still provides the important nutritional benefits of milk, including calcium, protein, minerals and vitamins. But because it still has the great taste of fresh milk, it can be used in exactly the same way as you would skimmed, semi skimmed and whole milk.
Typically, milk labelled as 'whole milk' contains 3.6% fat or more, 'semi-skimmed'1.7 % and 'skimmed' milk 0.1% fat or less. So if you want a healthier choice for your cuppa or breakfast cereal but don’t like skimmed milk, then why not give 1% milk a try.
However, as per the usual health messages for children’s diets, neither skimmed or 1% milk should feature as part of a child’s diet until they're at least five years old because it's too low in calories. Skimmed milk particularly, contains only very small amounts of vitamin A, which children need.
