The Co-operative teams with Mumtaz to create Indian cooking sauces

The Co-operative has enlisted the culinary skills of famous Bradford-based Indian restaurant, Mumtaz, to produce three delicious and authentic new Indian cooking sauces for its premium Truly Irresistible range.

The current economic climate means many families are choosing to eat in and cook for themselves rather than pay for expensive meals out or take always.  The new
Co-operative cooking sauces make it easy for customers to make restaurant-quality Indian meals at home, thanks to the exclusive tie-up with the award-winning Mumtaz restaurant, whose reputation spreads far beyond its home city.

As curries are so versatile, customers can make a meal in minutes and add anything from a variety of vegetables and chicken or even juicy king prawns for a more indulgent meal. 

Available in store now, the three ambient cooking sauces contain traditional blends of spices that have been passed down through generations.  The mouth-watering sauces are 100% natural with no modified starches and no artificial preservatives, artificial colours or flavours.  They are also free from gluten and are suitable for vegetarians.

The three restaurant-quality varieties are:

• The Co-operative Truly Irresistible Karahi Cooking Sauce 350g
  Made to a traditional Kashmiri recipe with ginger, garlic, onions, tomatoes, Mumtaz special spice blend, cumin and paprika.
  
• The Co-operative Truly Irresistible Tikka Masala Cooking Sauce 350g
  The sauce is made using a traditional chef’s method - it is cooked for longer periods than standard sauces, resulting in a richer and darker sauce with more intensive flavours.  Contains Onions, Garlic, Ginger, Fenugreek leaves, Cumin and Mumtaz special spice blend.
  
• The Co-operative Truly Irresistible Korma Cooking Sauce 350g 
  An authentic Kashmiri Korma sauce that has been created with double cream, onions and tomatoes, coconut milk, condensed milk, Mumtaz special spice blend, sultanas and pineapples.

Co-operative buyer Salma Khan, who forged the unique tie-up with Mumtaz, commented:

“These sauces are restaurant quality, and we are confident that they will inspire creativity in the kitchen and appeal to the growing number of customers wanting to create authentic Indian dishes at home.  They are a great way to make mouth-watering home-cooked Indian meals in a matter of minutes - and much healthier and less expensive than a take away.”

All three sauces are priced £2.29, but will have a third off from 8 December 2008 to Sunday 4 January 2009 inclusive.
