Content of a Funeral Plan

If you are looking at a range of Funeral Plan providers, make sure you check what is included in the final price. Some may promise a low cost Funeral Plan but then don’t provide sufficiently for things like transporting the deceased or 3rd party costs. The Co-operative Funeralcare lives by its values of quality, openness and honesty. We don’t cut corners so you can be sure we will provide you with the very best quality Plan and provide you with the individual support, care and reassurance when it matters most. There won’t be any extras to pay for the items in the Plan you have chosen when the time comes.

Fully guaranteed

Some Funeral Plans don’t guarantee to cover all the services you’ve asked for, and may only make a contribution towards third party costs, such as the minister or officiant fees. With rising prices this could mean that the person arranging the funeral would face extra costs when the time comes. The important thing with a Funeral Plan is to check the small print, as although a provider may describe a Plan as being "guaranteed" this may not actually be the case. With a Funeral Plan from The Co-operative, we cover all the third party costs, and guarantee to cover everything in your Funeral Plan, so that there are no extra costs when the time comes.

Your personal wishes

You may wish to add some personal touches to the arrangements of a Funeral Plan such as flowers, poems or dress codes. With a Set Funeral Plan from The Co-operative you can add Personal Wishes like music, favourite flowers or a special reading to the services included in your Plan. These Personal Wishes will be kept safely with your Plan and given to the Funeral Director to discuss with the person arranging the funeral.

With our Tailor-made Funeral Plan you can include as many additional services as you wish with your Plan and pay for these at today’s price; once paid for these will be fully covered when the time comes. Examples could include a notice in the newspaper, stationery for the service, a memorial etc.

A local service

You may wish to have a local Funeral Director carry out your arrangements, and have the reassurance that if you move in the future there is a Funeral Director close by that will carry out the arrangements. As the UK’s leading Funeral Director with over 1,100 Co-operative owned Funeral Homes, we offer a truly local service. All participating Co-operative Funeral Homes and affiliated Funeral Directors will accept our Plans, find your local Co-operative Funeral Home here. So, when you take out a Plan with The Co-operative you can record which of our many Funeral Homes you would like to entrust with your funeral arrangements. It also means if you do move house, it’s easy to change this information - simply call us or write to us to let us know.

Social responsibility

The Co-operative has always had a purpose beyond profit. We are pioneers in social and environmental responsibility and stand up for what’s right. In 2011 we launched The Co-operative Ethical Operating Plan which identifies the social and environmental issues such as climate change, global poverty and community involvement which matter most across all its businesses.

The Co-operative Funeralcare’s Ethical Strategy sets out how key issues like these are managed within the day to day running of our business. It shows how as the UK’s largest Funeral Director we fulfil our obligations and contribute to a lasting and valuable legacy, both locally and globally. Find out more about our Ethical Strategy.
