Why choose The Co-operative Funeralcare?

As part of The Co-operative Group we can trace our roots back to 1844 when The Co-operative was formed by the people for the people. It’s a principle that continues to this very day, in an organisation that is owned and controlled by over 3 million members.
We are not about making big profits for shareholders or large family groups, but creating value for our members and that could include you. Our top priority is to provide the best possible services for our clients and to invest in the communities that we serve. Each year we award a percentage of our profits to community projects, and in 2007 this amounted to £10.4 million.
With such a history and sure financial footing it is not surprising that The Co-operative Funeralcare has such an enviable reputation in all the communities in which we serve.
The Co-operative’s sound principles of caring for others and concern for the community are as strong today as they have always been.
As part of the community, The Co-operative Funeralcare offers a genuinely local funeral service backed by the strength and reassurance of a unique, caring organisation. Find out more about our involvement in the community within our news section.
There are few services we will ever require which are as exacting as the services provided by a funeral director, and naturally we want to ensure that those we love receive the best possible care. The Co-operative Funeralcare has become the country’s leading Funeral Director because of the high quality of care we offer, care that’s delivered by people working at a local level, who are backed by the resources and expertise of a trusted national organisation.
We are members of the National Association of Funeral Directors (NAFD), the UK’s leading funeral trade association, which is dedicated to maintaining the highest professional standards. At The Co-operative Funeralcare we operate all of our funeral homes according to a strict NAFD code of practice, which ensures clients’ rights are properly protected. For more information, please visit the NAFD website.
Our Staff
All our staff are professionally trained to the highest standards and we are committed to investing in our employees, with a commitment to ongoing training and assessments that is amongst the best in the country.
We offer all our employees a wide range of internal and external training opportunities and all of our employees are encouraged to take a BTEC vocational qualification in funeral directing, which The Co-operative Funeralcare has helped to set up.
Through training and continual development, our staff understand the needs and feelings of the bereaved and the importance of spending time helping families to plan a funeral that truly reflects the life of an individual.
Our standards
We are committed to providing our clients and their loved ones with the best possible care using funeral homes, facilities and vehicles which are maintained to the highest standards. To help ensure this we have:
- A dedicated standards team who continually visit and audit our services and facilities to help drive improvements in our services
- A comprehensive ‘mystery shop’ programme to ensure we maintain a high level of client service
- Client service questionnaires, which we ask all of our clients to complete. This allows us to understand what our client’s think about our service and manage and monitor the service we provide.
We offer all of our clients FREE legal advice
All clients who arrange a funeral with us are offered free individual advice on the legal and administrative processes following the death of a loved one.
Find out more about free legal support from The Co-operative Legal Services in our
Legal Support section.
We have a national funeral home network
We have over 800 branches operating across the UK, so in choosing The Co-operative Funeralcare, you will be dealing with an organisation which has unrivalled knowledge of funeral practices, customs and products throughout the UK - knowledge which can be used to meet the widest possible range of funeral requests.
We are owned and controlled by our members
Our members have the opportunity to have a say in how the business is run and receive a share of the profits. Anyone can become a member as long as they use one of our businesses and believe in what we stand for.
