Local carers in running for carer of the year title
One lucky carer will have their career in caring recognised on Monday (18 January), when the winner of The Carer of the Year award will be announced.
Organised by The Co-operative Funeralcare, the awards acknowledge the dedication, care, compassion and commitment of carers throughout Merseyside.
The Mayor and Mayoress of Wirral, Cllr Andrew Chapman Hodson and Kathryn Hodson, will present the winner with their prize at an awards lunch at Leasowe Castle Hotel in Wirral.
Throughout 2009, on a quarterly basis, nursing and retirement home managers throughout Wirral and Liverpool were invited to nominate a member of staff for their outstanding hard work and dedication.
The nominations were judged by local clergy and staff from The Co-operative Funeralcare.
The eight quarterly finalists – four from Wirral and four from Liverpool - in the running for the prestigious title of Carer of the Year, are:
- Maddie Washington, Appleby Court Nursing Home, Kirby
- Ashleigh Fearon, The Wavertree Nursing Home, Wavertree
- Jean Murphy, St Michael Manor & Mount Nursing Homes, Woolton
- David Phillips, Amberleigh House Nursing Home, Fazakerley
- Kelly Bell, Abbeyfield Residential Home, Heswall
- Val Oldham, The Grange Nursing Home, Heswall
- Jean Phillips, Elderhome Nursing Home, Bebington
- Kathy Morell, Mother Redcap’s Nursing Home, Wallasey
As well as a trophy, the lucky winner will receive £100 Co-operative vouchers and bed, breakfast and evening meal at the Leasowe Castle Hotel.
Frank Potter, manager of The Co-operative Funeralcare, said: “The standard of entries throughout the last year was extremely high and the judges had a hard decision to reach. We wish all the finalists the best of luck for Monday’s award ceremony and to have got so far is a great achievement in itself.”
