Williamson appointed to senior position at Funeralcare

The Co-operative Funeralcare has appointed John Williamson as National Operations Manager.

Previously Sector Operations Manager – North, John, who hails from Kilmarnock, will now join The Co-operative Funeralcare’s Joint Operations Board.

Forty-seven-year-old John joined the funeral profession in 1987 as a driver/bearer at The Co-operative Funeralcare in Ayr. He quickly progressed to the role of Funeral Director, achieving both the NAFD Diploma in Funeral Directing and British Institute of Embalmers qualification.

In 1995, John was appointed Manager for the funeral homes in Irvine and Kilmarnock.

After gaining a Post Graduate Management qualification in 1996, John held a series of management positions in Aberdeen, Glasgow and Manchester, returning briefly to Ayrshire as Regional Operations Manager before uprooting and moving to the South West as Sector Operations Manager.

He returned home in 2007 taking up the position of Sector Operations Manager – North, a role which he will continue to retain.

Newly-appointed Operations Director David Collingwood, to whom John will report, and deputise for as appropriate, said: “I am delighted to have appointed John as my successor. His appointment will ensure that a good balance of operational and non-operational backgrounds will continue to be represented in the leadership team and I have every confidence that his experience and enthusiasm will help drive the business forward.”

Commenting on his appointment, John, who is married to Janet and has two daughters, said: “I am honoured to have been promoted to this position and I look forward to the challenges this new role will bring.”
