Our latest funeral music survey shows tastes in music played at funerals is changing slowly but surely
We surveyed music arranged at almost 250 of our funeral homes - the 2009 results showed the impact of television, not just in our lives but on our deaths.
Findings from our latest funeral music survey confirm that, four years on from the last such study, tastes are changing. Despite, for example, Frank Sinatra's classic 'My Way' holding onto its number one position as the most contemporary funeral anthem, X-factor winner Alexandra Burke has made a small but significant first appearance in the charts.
The study reaffirms that trends in funerals are changing - albeit at a much slower rate than in other areas of social custom. As more people choose non-religious funerals, they incline towards contemporary songs with which they closely identify - at The Co-operative Funeralcare our aim is to make sure people are aware of the options and choices open to them, so that ultimately the funeral service reflects the life of the individual.

The Co-operative Funeralcare gets out and about in the UK this summer

We make television advertising breakthrough!
We have made a marketing breakthrough with the launch of the UK’s first national television advertising campaign for funeral services.
As, the UK’s largest funeral director, we embarked on the venture following a successful trial of television advertising in Scotland last year.
The campaign, “We’re with you every step of the way,” stresses the professional and caring support provided by the organisation at every stage of funeral arrangements, its strong community links and its desire to help people arrange funerals which reflect individual personalities.
Managing Director of The Co-operative Funeralcare, David Hendry, commented: “We have the only national brand in the funeral sector and we want to make sure that people know that we are there to help at a difficult time.”
We're official sponsors of the Glasgow Phoenix Choir
At the end of April 2009, over 2,000 people attended the Phoenix Choir 'Homecoming' concert at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall.
As official sponsors of the event, Funeralcare invited special guests to the concert including 200 children from local schools and charities, 2 children's choirs and 70 members of The Ayrshire Fiddle Orchestra who are all aged between 12 and 18 and also performed at the concert.
Local Funeralcare branches arranged transport for our special guests including 15 Limousines and a double-decker bus load of music lovers to come along to the concert.
Funeralcare National Community Marketing Manager, John Taylor, said about the event "It was a huge success. Everyone had a great time and many said it was one of the best Phoenix Choir concerts they'd ever heard!"
You can see the Phoenix Choir in concert on the following dates:
6th June - Old Cumnock Parish, Cumnock, Scotland
12th June - St. Bride's Church, West End Festival, Glasgow
13th June - Free Mason's Hall, Edinburgh
