At the graveside

The custom of throwing soil or petals into the grave lives on throughout the UK, however there is a growth in new graveside rituals.

Just recently we had a father and son playing musical instruments at the graveside. They played a jazz tune as the deceased was being lowered.

For example we have organised funerals which included the following:

  • Live music
  • Firework displays
  • Fly-pasts
  • Release of balloons, bubbles and doves

In fact, according to our funeral trends research almost anything goes, budget and local regulations permitting.

Musical instruments played at the graveside can be touching and uplifting.
Flowers or petals can be scattered at the graveside.
A balloon signed by friends is released as part of the funeral ceremony.
