The funeral cortege

The traditional funeral procession is still popular but is becoming more personalised as families are choosing the route the funeral cortege takes.

Sometimes they’ll ask you to wait a couple of minutes outside the British Legion or their pub and, for a lot of the older generation who stayed in a nursing home, their family will often request we go past where they used to
live.

Whilst the traditional funeral hearse is still chosen in the majority of occasions, families are also starting to arrange funeral processions which reflect the individual life of the deceased.

For example we've organised funeral corteges including the following:

  • Tractors
  • Fire engines
  • Lorries
  • Milk floats
  • Motorbikes
  • Pink Cadillacs
  • Bicycles
  • Motorbikes

People are also increasingly choosing to personalise the route that the funeral cortege will take to the ceremony. Often the procession will go past a location that was sigificant to the deceased - for example their home, their place of work or another place which was special to them (e.g. the local cricket club).
