In 1844, a revolution began. This revolution was called The Co-operative.
It began in Rochdale, where a group of everyday people founded a new kind of business. A business based on democratic principles, owned by its customers and reinvesting in the community it served. 168 years on, we’ve grown to become a part of daily life, with over 5,000 stores and branches across the UK.
In 2011, we launched our groundbreaking new Plan with one clear goal: to be the most socially responsible business in the UK.
Now, in this the International Year of Co-operatives, we’re taking Our Ethical Plan even further, to inspire more people than ever to change their world.
