Conveyancing consultancy launched by Land Registry
Conveyancing 10 Dec 2010

A conveyancing consultancy is to be carried out by the Land Registry, with the stated aim being improved regulation of professionals in light of the forthcoming alternative business structures.
The Legal Services Act 2007 made provision for property solicitors, lawyers and other professionals to work together and offer a range of facilities, something many experts believe will improve competitiveness and drive down the cost of essential tasks such as making a will.
Conveyancing experts will be able to contribute to the discussion until February 21st 2011, with an online questionnaire provided to facilitate responses.
Another aim of the new legal services regulation is to make lawyers and non-legally qualified colleagues more flexible and able to respond to changing market needs, an adaptation that may suite individuals with a range of requirements.
Chief land registrar Marco Pierleoni said the consultation document "sets out the amendments we consider are necessary to the legislation and the processes and practices required to meet the needs of both property professionals and property owners".
