Conveyancing 'should be carried out by property solicitors'
Conveyancing 12 Oct 2010
Property solicitors are "best placed" to carry out
conveyancing work, one expert has advised.
Law Society president Linda Lee warns real estate and land are being targeted by fraudsters eager to cash in on the high-value assets, with older people, absent homeowners and landlords most at risk, the Guardian reports.
The
conveyancing expert states: "Solicitors are qualified in all areas of property law and are there to help you avoid potential problems and to protect your interests at every step."
In partnership with the Land Registry, the Law Society is attempting to alert consumers to the risk of identity and registration fraud, suggesting Britons take extra care when dealing with property in a legal context.
Registering a title and keeping the information up to date is recommended, as well as having more than one address on the document, which may make it easier to confirm ownership should any problems arise.
Relationship breakdown is highlighted as another potential time when fraud could occur.
