Conveyancing: EPC importance is set to increase as sustainable building demand rises
Conveyancing 11 Nov 2011

As an increasing demand for sustainable building drives down the cost of green construction, the importance of energy performance certificate (EPCs) data is set to increase.
Richard Addenbrook, managing director of Sense of Space Architects, stated: "Typically, up until about four years ago, the obstacle [to sustainable building] was cost.
"[Since then] there has been a big culture shift - people are now much more into trying to ... build in a sustainable way."
With sustainable building and energy efficiency becoming a major priority for consumers, the importance of EPC data is set to rise among individuals looking to buy a house.
An EPC provides information on how energy efficient a property is and ways to reduce energy consumption and carbon dioxide emissions.
The recommendation report suggests improvements, such as loft insulation, and the possible savings that improvement will generate.
How renovations will effect properties carbon emissions is also included in the EPC.
