Compensation for unfair dismissal council victim
Employment 06 Jan 2011

A man who suffered
unfair dismissal at the hands of Chorley Council has been awarded compensation, with one source saying the payment has been set at £30,000.
Wayne Andrews had worked for the local authority for more than 20 years and an
employment tribunal has ruled he was sacked because of his strong union links, the Chorley Guardian reports.
The panel unanimously agreed
wrongful dismissal had taken place as the victim had been involved in action against council plans to outsource some management services to a French-owned firm, with judge Kloss giving a "damning" summation.
Mr Andrew's compensation will take account of the amount of time he has worked within local government having started as a gravedigger in 1988, before being promoted to various roles and made markets manager after six years.
A recent case of unfair dismissal led to £8,000 compensation for a man fired by Stagecoach Scotland, after the firm sacked him on grounds of his "bad attitude", The Courier reported.
