Rok staff could seek employment law advice

Employment 15 Nov 2010

Employment law advice might be in demand as social housing provider Rok makes wide-sweeping redundancies. Employment law advice may be high on the agenda for staff at beleaguered construction company Rok, as a further round of redundancies has been unveiled.

The firm announced last week it is entering into administration because it has been unable to service its financial requirements, with accountants PricewaterhouseCoopers overseeing the arrangements.

Cases of unfair dismissal have risen since the global economic slowdown, with disgruntled employees unhappy at being made redundant due to staff budget cutbacks.

Social housing provider Rok had 3,800 workers, with almost 1,000 having lost their jobs since last week's announcement, of which some may consider seeking employment law advice.

Having initially laid off some 700 personnel, the firm's Scottish workforce have faced the loss of jobs at several locations, including those employed at Inverness's plumbing, heating and electrical outfit.

A report in the Press and Journal indicates all staff at three offices in Thurso, Fort William and Elgin have been made redundant.
