Employee takes former boss to employment tribunal

Employment 15 Feb 2011

Employee takes former boss to employment tribunal A man has had a compensation claim paid to him by his former boss in an out-of-court settlement.

Mark Gilbert was marched to a police station in Witham, Essex by his ex-employer Simon Cremer wearing a sign that said "Thief. I stole £845. Am on way to police station" after he wrote a cheque out to himself from the company he worked for.

Now Mr Cremer has paid Mr Gilbert before the case over employment rights reached court, as he feared that he would have to pay out a more substantial sum. Mr Gilbert's former employer paid him £5,000 and also spent £8,000 in legal fees.

Mr Gilbert originally took action as he claimed to have suffered distress during the October 2008 incident and wanted to be compensated for two years' lost earnings.

In addition, Charles Lisboa last month won a discrimination case against the Coleherne Arms, a London pub, at an employment tribunal.
