Employment tribunal won by Shropshire workers
Employment 10 Mar 2011

An
employment tribunal has found in favour of a group of Shropshire staff, awarding them a combined amount of almost £90,000.
The Shropshire Star reported that the workers were given the payout after hiring
employment solicitors to represent them after they lost their jobs working for a door manufacturing company.
A Birmingham employment tribunal heard that when Timberlike Ltd, of Hale, Cheshire, opted for voluntary liquidation, 24 workers were let go.
Three of the firm's staff, Ian Edwards, Ken Jones and Nicholas Roberts, represented all the workers at the hearing, where they claimed over protective awards.
Helen Mason, the tribunal judge, said that as the firm had not conducted consultations with its workers regarding its closure it had breached the
Employment Rights Act.
Mr Edwards said: "We were told the firm was closing but we were not given a prior warning and there was no consultation. The firm did not recognise trade unions."
In another recent legal case, Paul Smith was awarded a compensation payout from Stagecoach Scotland after his
wrongful dismissal claim was upheld.
