Failure to provide protection against unfair dismissal will hinder growth

Government plans to scrap the protection of workers against
wrongful dismissal will hinder economic growth, according to one industry expert.
Brendan Barber, Trade Union Congress general secretary, stated: "Scrapping protection against
unfair dismissal ... will do absolutely nothing to boost the economy.
"Indeed if people are constantly in fear of losing their jobs it will lead consumers to spend even less."
According to Mr Barber, removing worker protection against unfair dismissal will allow malicious bosses to exploit workers and undermine decent standards.
Members of the Coalition are also coming out in protest to the plans.
The Guardian reported that Norman Lamb, chief parliamentary and political adviser and parliamentary private secretary to Nick Clegg, has called the proposals madness.
The law of unintended consequence could mean staff who challenge their employer could be dismissed as a result, according to Mr Lamb, instead of getting rid of unproductive workers as the proposals intend.
