Man speaks out on employment rights
Employment 10 May 2011

A sacked nurse who is set to be awarded almost £48,000 and will return to his job has spoken out about his win at an
employment tribunal.
"I’ve been a registered mental health nurse since 1985. I’ve been committed to that job my entire working life and I want to get back to doing what I’m qualified to do," Yunus Bakhsh told the Evening Chronicle.
A judge recently ruled that Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Trust had victimised Mr Bakhsh and acted in an unlawful manner.
Mr Bakhsh, of Gateshead, will receive the £47,573.55 payout after he was sacked in June 2008 while he was on leave and suffering from depression.
The remedies hearing said that this some should be paid to the 50-year-old by May 11th and that he can go back to being a Band 5 registered mental health nurse at the hospital he was fired from.
Last month,
compensation lawyers also won a £35,000 payout for Maggie Pattinson after she brought an
unfair dismissal claim to court.
