Andy Gray may seek legal advice over sacking

Legal Services 31 Jan 2011

Andy Gray may seek legal advice over sacking Andy Gray may have sought legal help over suing his former employer, Sky Sports, after he was recently fired from his position as a football pundit.

Mr Gray is reported to now be launching an unfair dismissal lawsuit for £3 million with the help of legal solicitors, the Mirror revealed.

The presenter was embroiled in a sexism dispute with co-presenter Richard Keys and was let go from his position as a result.

Lawyer Martin Edwards commented to the paper: "Did Sky get it right legally? Employers who sack people as a knee-jerk reaction may have to pay heavy compensation for unfair dismissal."

Mr Edwards added that at present people can only receive a maximum payout of £65,000 for unfair dismissal, although cases of discrimination can receive bigger payouts.

Mr Gray reportedly wants the million pound payout to compensate for the rest of his £1.7 million a year contract.

In another recent case, Charles Lisboa won a legal fight against London's Coleherne Arms for discrimination. He was awarded £4,500.
