Consumers given legal advice

Legal Services 31 Jan 2011

Consumers given legal advice People looking to find a solicitors have been given information on the Legal Services Act.

Propertyweek.com said that more legal services are likely to be on offer from high street retailers as a result of this new act.

According to the news source, the legislation has an alternative business structures rule that means legal practices can be owned and invested in by non-lawyers.

The regulation will be implemented from October 6th this year and companies will be able to apply for a license midway through this year, meaning that consumers will be able to get legal advice from more sources.

As a result of the legislation, companies like high street banks and supermarkets will be able to offer free legal advice.

In addition, preliminary findings from a study carried out by the Solicitors Regulation Authority found that people are generally happy with the legal services they use, the Law Society Gazette reported.

Despite this, the study also discovered that many people could not tell the difference between different practitioners.
