Failed case shows importance of legal solicitors

The importance of using
legal solicitors has been highlighted by a recent case in which a former trainee nurse failed to secure a tribunal for her grievances.
Barbara Allatt was thrown off her nursing course after revealing hospital malpractice, the Staffordshire Newsletter reported.
She failed to have a tribunal hearing for her claims of discrimination over her beliefs,
unfair dismissal and negative repercussions for revealing information that was in the public interest.
At a hearing last Tuesday, Ms Allatt, a mother of one, represented herself, suggesting that legal solicitors could have helped her in her action.
Robert Ashton, an employment judge, concluded at the hearing that her case was unsuitable for an
employment tribunal, as her public interest and unfair dismissal claims were void.
In addition, Judge Ashton discovered that Ms Allatt had missed the statutory deadline to register complaints, something which may not have happened if she had tried to
find a solicitor.
Furthermore, the Trades Union Congress has expressed concern that rules surrounding employment tribunals may be changed by a possible upcoming government consultation.
