Cuts to free legal services criticised
Legal Services 30 Jun 2011

The latest commentator to wade into the debate over the government's cuts to free
legal services has said that the move will see vulnerable and poor members of society suffer the most.
Jonny Mulligan, of the Sound Off for Justice campaign, wrote for Left Foot Forward that cuts will also damage social cohesion and increase criminality.
In addition, Mr Mulligan said that cuts to free legal services will result in the victims of crime rather than the perpetrators being punished.
Mr Mulligan also claimed that the government's Justice Bill is full of inaccuracies and mistakes and makes assumptions about calculations rather than using evidence.
"This bill leaves our civil justice system at the edge of an abyss beyond which we do not know where we are destined," he said.
In addition, former magistrate who spent 24 years in the profession, Anthony Martin, also said that free legal services are important, the Express & Echo reported.
