MP speaks out on free legal advice cuts
Legal Services 31 Mar 2011

MP Karl Turner, a member of the Justice Select Committee, has written about his opinions on the government's cuts to free
legal help for Leftfootforward.org.
Mr Turner said that the move will not reduce the deficit but rather the rights of Britons to access justice.
He said: "The Ministry of Justice’s legal aid reforms and the government’s proposals for deficit reduction are inseparable."
According to Mr Turner, and a report from the Justice Select Committee, the government does have another option open to it; coming up with longer-term ways of achieving reform.
Instead, the authorities have opted for the "quick and simple route", which Mr Turner said will cause harm to vulnerable members of society.
Another public figure who is supporting the battle against cuts to free legal help is Joanna Lumley. The actress has backed the Sound Off For Justice campaign, as she thinks that each member of society should be heard.
