Prisoner gets free legal help
Legal Services 07 Apr 2011

An incarcerated man has been granted free
legal help of up to £12,000 so that he can launch a court room battle over prison conditions.
David Bieber, a former US marine, is set to sue the prison service at London's High Court as he believes that his human rights have been breached by being labelled a Category A Exceptional Risk prisoner.
Mr Bieber, who murdered a police officer in 2003, wants to be taken out of a secure underground unit and allowed to access extra prison facilities, such as the gym.
He told the court that he had displayed model behaviour and did not have to be in the environment he was kept in.
Former detective chief superintendent Chris Gregg told the Daily Mail: "He [Mr Bieber] is the most manipulative and dangerous criminal I have ever experienced. Given half a chance he would take any opportunity to escape and I dare say this is what his legal challenge is about."
In a case last month, a prisoner, David Faulkner, won £10,000 with the help of
free legal advice after he was imprisoned for too long.
