Silent protest over free legal advice held in Coventry
Legal Services 06 Jun 2011

People have recently gathered in the city of Coventry to protest the government's cuts to
free legal advice.
The Coventry Telegraph reported that around 200 individuals joined the march in the city centre and made their point silently, in a move that was supposed to symbolise how people with problems would no longer be heard in courts if the cuts were made.
Protesters came from the Coventry Law Centre and were also accompanied by MPs Geoffrey Robinson and Jim Cunningham, as well as Lord Bach, labour shadow legal aid minister.
Sue Bent, from Coventry law centre, said: "These cuts will have a devastating impact and will threaten the future of many organisations."
In addition, Lord Bach spoke out on the cuts to free
legal services, saying that the move was a "crude and chaotic deliberate attack on the poor and marginalised".
Furthermore, the reduction of the legal aid budget has also been criticised by David Cameron's brother Alex, the Daily Mail reported. The Prime minster reportedly said that his sibling was unhappy with the move.
