Bike accident claim wins £2.4 million

Personal Injury 16 Nov 2010

A bike accident claim has resulted in a payment of almost £2.5 million for a biker injured by a learner driver. A bike accident claim has resulted in a £2.4 million payout for a cyclist injured in 2001.

Hamish McCullough, now 34, suffered brain damage and was hospitalised for a year after being hit by a driver near Wantage in Oxfordshire.

Accident compensation solicitors were pivotal in securing the victim's payment, which should cover medical costs for the rest of his life, as Mr McCullough now requires round-the-clock care.

The Oxford Mail reports a judge has approved the settlement between the cyclist's legal team and the insurance company, though the accident claim took an unusually long time to be resolved.

A student at Oxford Brookes University at the time of the bike accident, road.cc reports the guilty party was jailed for two years for failing to stop at the scene of the collision.

He clipped Mr McCullough with his wing mirror and was not in possession of a full licence at the time of the incident.
