Blackpool woman wins £1.5m traffic accident claim

Personal Injury 03 Nov 2010

A woman hit by a truck when she was 14 has won a £1.5 million traffic accident claim. A traffic accident claim worth £1.5 million has been won by a woman from Fylde, near Blackpool, after she was hit by a van ten years ago.

Jenna Maher, 24, was left in a coma after being struck by the vehicle as she crossed the road, resulting in severe brain damage and long-term care problems, The Gazette reports.

The traffic accident claim was awarded by Mrs Justice Sharp, who told the victim: "I have no doubt the settlement is in your best interests, has been very carefully thought about and structured to provide you with security for now and for your future."

Ms Maher's personal injury compensation includes £100,000 damages for pain and suffering, as the accident has affected her memory and ability to look after herself.

One traffic accident claim brought against a local authority recently resulted in success for the victim, after it was ruled a pedestrian struck by a taxi was hit due to overgrown bushes obscuring her view, OnlyFinance.com reported.
